Ify was born on March 24, 1960 to the Chinke family of eight children in Nigeria. She was child number seven in order of birth. She attended high school at Queen’s School, Enugu, Nigeria. Shortly after graduating from high school (secondary school), she attended and graduated from California State University, Long Beach, California.

A couple of years later she moved to the east cost of the US. Subsequently, she met and married Dr. Osita Onyekwere in Cleveland, Ohio, nearly 21 years ago. Their family members represented them at the traditional “wine-carrying” marriage ceremonies in Nigeria, in keeping with the customs there.

Ify and Osita had two beautiful children in Cleveland. They later moved to Anniston/Jacksonville, Alabama, and worked together to grow Osita’s medical practice and Ify’s upscale women’s clothing boutique, Victoria Anne boutique in Oxford, Alabama. They had 2 more beautiful children in Alabama. They later expanded to Bremen, GA, to support the education of their children, some of whom were in boarding school in Georgia.

Ify is well known for getting family and friends together at many social gatherings and many parties. She was generous, elegant and had exquisite taste. She was active in the Atlanta chapter of the Queen’s School Alumni Association and as a spousal member of the Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas, Georgia chapter. She died unexpectedly on June 1, 2009 leaving countless heart-broken family and friends.

She is and will be missed forever. May her soul rest in perfect peace.
